Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry This organization traces its roots to the Indian Merchants’ Association. It was formed in 1924 out of the Singapore Indian Association. In its first decade, it acted as a social club for merchants from Bombay (present- day Mumbai).
By 1935, it was felt that a single organization was needed, to represent Indian business interests, and so the Indian Chamber of Commerce was founded, with Rajabali Jumabhoy as its first president. In 1970, the organization was renamed the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
