Oei Hong Leong (1948– ) Businessman. Born in Indonesia, Oei Hong Leong spent part of his childhood in China, where he also received his early education. His father, Eka Tjipta Widjaja, was the founder of the Sinar Mas conglomerate. Oei became chairman of China Strategic Holdings, which has invested in a wide range of industries, including beverages and paper. He is best known in Singapore for using United Industrial Corporation (UIC), which he controlled, to launch a $2.6 billion hostile takeover of property firm Singapore Land in 1990, as well as his 2004 attempt to take over NatSteel.
