Lim, Adrian (1942– 1988) Adrian Lim, his wife Catherine Tan Mui Choo, and his mistress Hoe Kah Hong, were convicted in 1986 of murdering two children, Agnes Ng Siew Heok and Ghazali Marzuki (aged nine and ten, respectively) in 1981. Lim and Tan were also charged with the murder of Hoe’s husband, Loh Ngak Hua.

Lim— a wireman working for Rediffusion— and his conspirators were members of a cult that worshipped the Hindu goddess, Kali. They believed that the sacrifice of children would bring them good luck. The two children were drowned in a bath- tub after being repeatedly tortured, sexually abused and electrocuted. The trio then drunk the children’s blood.

Lim’s descent began in 1973 when he began practising as a medium. He exploited dance hostesses and prostitutes for his own sexual purposes and for financial gain. Lim’s wife, Lilian Tan, divorced him. Lim then married Catherine Tan and the couple took to the stage as a performing duo, with Tan as a stripper. Lim told the court that he had killed the two children as an act of revenge against the police who were ‘giving him trouble’ with their investigations into Loh’s death.

The case, with its elements of gore, sex and black magic, horrified the nation.Tan and Hoe appealed against their convictions and sentences on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Lim chose not to appeal. All three were hanged.
