jaywalking Under the Road Traffic Act, ‘jaywalking’ includes the act of crossing a street when a traffic signal forbids pedestrians from doing so; walking on a road where there is no traffic light or pedestrian crossing; and walking across bus bays and bus interchanges. Persons caught jaywalking may be fined up to $500 for their first offence. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $2,000, or imprisoned for six months.
